چکیده
Abstract Introduction/Objective Physicians often rely on Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) cytology, chemistry, and culture. While cheap, these methods lack high sensitivity/specificity or have long turnaround times. PCR evaluation of CSF has become more common is touted as a way to save money, decrease times quickly target antibiotics. systems may cost $200,000, with $150 in disposables per test. As new, fast, test it be over ordered. Methods/Case Report Case-control study using retrospective chart review. All adults, aged 18 over, who had undergone both based testing cytochemical between 3/1/2017 9/7/2019 were included. Results (if Case Study enter NA) From 3/1/2017-9/7/2019, there 381 available results for adult GWUH patients. Demographic data showed that the patient sample was majority black (195/320, 60.94%), an average age 49.8 ± 17.2, female (172/320, 53.75%). The 85.31% negative (273/320) cultures 94.38% negative. most positive organism Varicella zoster virus (11/47 results) culture Streptococcus pneumoniae (5/18 cultures). Conclusion In population clinical symptoms at least 1 abnormality analysis, 6.5 tests run every No single variable found significantly predict results. Within initial cost, disposable detection rate 14.7%, detect by could approach $4,500. should used judiciously following history, physical exam standard workup, rather than screening tool.

Serotyping pneumococcal meningitis cases in the African meningitis belt by use of multiplex PCR with cerebrospinal fluid.
We reformulated a multiplex PCR algorithm for serotyping of pneumococcal meningitis directly on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Compared to established methods on isolates, CSF-based PCR had at least 80% sensitivity and 100% specificity. In regional meningitis surveillance, CSF-based PCR increased the serotype information yield from 40% of cases (isolate testing) to 90%.
متن کاملCommon Cause and Cerebrospinal Fluid Changes of Acute Bacterial Meningitis
Background and Objective: Bacterial meningitis is an important cause of mortality and long-term neural morbidity. Immediate diagnosis and treatment are necessary in appropriate time. This study was designed in Afzalipour Hospital in Kerman to evaluate meningitis causes, frequency and CSF laboratory changes. Patients and Methods: In this retrograde descriptive study from September 2003 to Se...
متن کاملHuman enteroviruses in cerebrospinal fluid of children with suspected aseptic meningitis: A study in northern Iran
Background: Enterovirus (EV) infections are one of the most common causes of aseptic meningitis in pediatrics. To diagnose EV meningitis, virus isolation in cell cultures is often time consuming and lacks sensitivity to be of clinical relevance. This makes the virus culture results difficult to interpret. The rapid detection of EVs in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by molecular diagnostic techniques...
متن کاملCEREBROSPINAL FLUID FINDINGS IN NEONATAL BACTERIAL MENINGITIS
Background : Meningitis is more common during the neonatal period than other periods of life and has a prevalence of one in 1000 live births. The similarity of its clinical manifestations with other infectious diseases makes it difficult to diagnose. The aim of the current study was to determine the relationship between age, sex, clinical signs and symptoms and laboratory test results of ne...
متن کاملPathogen Identification by Multiplex LightMix Real-Time PCR Assay in Patients with Meningitis and Culture-Negative Cerebrospinal Fluid Specimens
Acute bacterial meningitis is a medical emergency, and delays in initiating effective antimicrobial therapy result in increased morbidity and mortality. Culture-based methods, thus far considered the "gold standard" for identifying bacterial microorganisms, require 24 to 48 h to provide a diagnosis. In addition, antimicrobial therapy is often started prior to clinical sample collection, thereby...
